Bobby "Bob" Whisnant

LENOIR - Bobby "Bob" Whisnant, 77, of Lenoir, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at his residence after years of declining health. Mr. Whisnant was born in Burke County to the late Fred Whisnant and Velsie Orders Whisnant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph, Arthur, James and Paul Whisnant; sisters, Vissie Pearson and Nellie Ward. He was a graduate of Salem High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army, retired from Nu Woods and a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Reba Beane Whisnant of the home; two sons, Tony Whisnant and his wife, Anne, of Lenoir and Jody L. Whisnant of Hudson; a granddaughter, Jennifer Townsend and husband, Chris; a great-grandson, Reagan Townsend. Also left to cherish his memory is Bob's best friend, his cat, Blossom. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 28, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Union Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Sam Craven and the Rev. Marvin Yarborough officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 27, 2010, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Pendry's Funeral Home. The deacons of Union Grove Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers. The Whisnant family requests that memorials be made to Union Grove Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1808 Union Grove Road, Lenoir, N.C. 28645; or to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, N.C. 28645. Pendry's Funeral home is assisting the Whisnant family with arrangements.
