Harry M. Whisnant

HICKORY - Harry Monroe Whisnant, 71, of Hickory, passed away Monday, July 14, 2008, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. Born Dec. 16, 1936, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Eubert and Fern Donkel Whisnant. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was the owner of Jon-Scott Hosiery. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby D. Whisnant. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Jenkins Whisnant of the home; two daughters, Terri Whisnant Ishii and husband, Roy, of Taylorsville and Sandy Whisnant Berry of Conover; a son, Scott Monroe Whisnant of Hickory; two brothers, Thomas R. Whisnant and wife, Doris, of Hickory and Richard Paul Whisnant and wife, Janet, of Sylva; three granddaughters, Tiffany Lynn Chilton of Lincolnton, Taylor Elaine Berry of Conover and Brittany Marie Whisnant of Hildebran; three grandsons, Brandon Scott Whisnant of Hildebran, Justin Lewis of Hickory and Frankie Laboy of the home; and a great-granddaughter, Kira Marie Helton of Hildebran. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor John Woodard officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m., at the church. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund, 1911 Zion Church Road, Hickory, N.C. 28602. Bass-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family of Harry Monroe Whisnant.
