Nell W. Schronce

MAIDEN - Nell Louise Whisnant Schronce, 97, of East Main Street, Maiden, died Saturday, May 31, 2008, at her residence with loving family members at her bedside. Born Dec. 6, 1910, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Rufus Newton Whisnant and Carrie Lee Murray Whisnant. She was a graduate from Balls Creek High School, Class of 1928. Nell was a charter and oldest member of Cornerstone Church in Maiden. In addition to her parents, her husband, Clyde Roosevelt Schronce of 33 years; a granddaughter, Alison Rose Schronce; and three brothers, William Murry Whisnant, Robert Bryant Whisnant and John Wesley Whisnant, preceded her in death. She is survived by three sons, Larry Schronce and his wife, Martha, of Hickory, Edward Schronce and his wife, Patsy, of Kings Mountain, Nelson Schronce of Cherry Grove, S.C., and Frannie Schronce of Newton; one daughter, Mona Laverne Schronce of the home; one sister, Gretta Whisnant Carswell of Newton; five grandchildren, Edie S. Greenlee of Kings Mountain, James Schronce of Fort Mill, S.C., Bradley Schronce and his wife, Patricia, of Taylorsville, Carrie S. Ford and her husband, Brett, of Hickory, and Kim S. Barr and her husband, Garrett, of Taylorsville; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Betty Shaffer and Ann Parker. The family wishes to thank Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley and Gentiva Health Care Services of Hickory for the caring and excellent services they provided her. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2008, at Cornerstone Church in Maiden. Pastor Ronnie Parker will be officiating. Pastors Jonathan Foster and Dwayne Pearson will be assisting. Burial will follow in Maiden City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Schronce, Bradley Schronce, Brett Ford, Garrett Barr, Jerry Lawing, Johnnie Abernathy and Steve Fox. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Goodin-Drum Funeral Home in Maiden. Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Church, 409 E.
