RACHEL B. WHISNANT
MORGANTON - Rachel Lou Brittain Whisnant, 77, of Morganton, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at Morganton Long Term Care following a brief illness.
Born in Burke County on July 23, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Edward Brittain and Katie Mae Rudicill Brittain.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ned Wyclith Whisnant, brothers, Virgil, Lonnie and Lee Brittain, and a sister, Katherine McGee.
She was a member of Mount Home Baptist Church, where she was a former nursery school teacher. Mrs. Whisnant was a retired employee of Drexel Heritage Furnishings.
Mrs. Whisnant is survived by a son, Steve Allen Whisnant of Maiden; sisters, Mary Watson of Morganton and Thelma Whisnant and husband, Gene, of Morganton; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2004, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Revs. Jerry Gamble and Clyde Buckner officiating.
Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 tonight. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Mary Watson, 1989 Sunnydale Drive, Morganton.
