Carroll D. Whisnant

HICKORY - Carroll Dean Whisnant, 73, of Hickory, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at his residence. He was born Feb. 23, 1934, in Catawba County. Mr. Whisnant was a member of First Baptist Church in Hickory. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Barringer; and a brother, Wayne Whisnant. Mr. Whisnant is survived by his wife, Martha Barrs Whisnant of the home; two brothers, Bob Whisnant of Hickory and Ted Whisnant of Conover; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rodney Powe officiating. Burial will follow in St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery in Newton. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 260 First Ave., NW, No. 218, Hickory, N.C. 28601. Bass-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family of Carroll Dean Whisnant.
