William V. Whisnant Sr.
William V. "Bill" Whisnant Sr., 76, 745 First Avenue, Hampton, died Tuesday, December 11, 2001, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, following a brief illness.
Mr. Whisnant was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Isaac and Lillie Royal Whisenhunt. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Johnson Whisnant, March 12, 1985.
Mr. Whisnant was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Tiger Creek. He was a retired barber and was owner-operator of Bills Barber Shop, Bristol. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II and the Battle of the Bulge.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue Calhoun and Starr Whisnant Garland, both of Hampton; a son, William Whisnant Jr., Hampton; two sisters, Millie Tester, Hickory, N.C., and Mimmie Arwood, Hampton; five brothers, Nova Whisenhunt, Elizabethton, Carmon Whisnant, Hampton, Dave Whisnant, Manteca, Calif., Reno Whisenhunt, Roan Mountain, and Harry Whisnant, Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Doug Calhoun, Hope Nichols and Chad Whisnant, all of Hampton, and Destiny Whisnant, Roan Mountain; and one great-grandson, Jacob Calhoun, Hampton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
