Charles Whisnant
Charles J. “Sonny” Whisnant, 70, of Spainhour Road, Morganton, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at his residence following a period of declining health.
Born in Burke County on March 24, 1935, he was a son of the late J. Lloyd Whisnant and Ellie Mae Smith Whisnant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Dianne Drum Whisnant, of the home; sons, Darrell Whisnant Sr., and his wife, Cheryl, Dean Whisnant and Dennis Whisnant; a daughter, Ronda Whisnant and her husband, Levi, all of Morganton; step-sons, Rick Pruett and Jeffery Pruett; step-daughters, Tyra Seagle and Lori Watson; a brother, Max Whisnant; sisters, Louise Dale, Letha Benfield, Faye McCoy, Vernie Chapman, all of Morganton, and Muriel Smith of Sylva; six grandchildren, Darrell Whisnant Jr., Charles Dean Whisnant Jr., Brandon Whisnant, Brandy Dupuis, Amber Whisnant and Ashley Whisnant, all of Morganton; seven step-grandchildren, Gracie Franklin, Hannah Seagle, Harrison Seagle, Matthew Watson, Lucas Watson, Lauren Pruett, Parker Pruett; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Rev. Andy Parkey officiating.
Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral. At the other times, the family will be at the residence.
