Mavis Dafene Burns, 81, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2008, at a local care center.
Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home.
Mavis was born Feb. 26, 1927, in Windom to Wilma and Bishop Whisenhunt. She was a lifelong member of Normandale Baptist Church and lived in White Settlement over 50 years. Mavis volunteered for the church and Texas Girls Choir. She worked as a teacher's aide at a private school and was an accomplished seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Calven Burns, in 1988.
Survivors: Sons, Jerry Burns of White Settlement and Richard Calven Burns Jr. of Fort Worth; daughters, Susan Garza and husband, Ruben, of Corpus Christi and Amy Barton of Benbrook; grandchildren, Kevin and Kyle Burns, Andrew, Aaron and Alex Barton, Sarah and Esther Loudermilk and Gary Burns; and great-grandchildren, Logan, Braden and Riley Rae Burns.
