Ruth A. Winkle
Ruth A. (Whisenhunt) Winkle passed on to be with her Lord on April 2, 2010 at the age of 93. Ruth was born on January 1, 1917 at Texanna, OK and was a lifelong resident of the Checotah area and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She dearly loved Checotah and her church. Ruth was an amazing seamstress having retired from White Stag Sewing Factory. Spring was Ruth's favorite time of the year. She loved being outdoors, planting her vegetable garden, cleaning flower beds, pruning fruit trees, mowing her lawn, and anything else that would keep her outside. She also loved family gatherings. Ruth was a true Proverbs 31 woman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis J. Winkle; parents, Willie A. and Ethel Whisenhunt; brothers, Jack Whisenhunt and Gene Whisenhunt; and sister Dona Tackett. Survivors include her five children, 2 sons, Don and his wife JoAnn of Broken Arrow, and Darrell and his wife Shirley of Eufaula; 3 daughters, Jolena Schroader of Greenville, Kentucky, Karen James and husband Bob of Checotah and Cheryl Paine and husband Craig of Tulsa; 13 grandchildren, Chris Winkle, DeaAnn Easley, Robin Holloway, Alan Winkle, John Winkle, Joe Winkle, Gina Schroader, Jerry Schroader, Scott Schroader, Leslie Nutt, Tami Duvall, Ashley Boomer, and Brian Paine; 24 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Boggus Whisenhunt and Bane Whisenhunt and 2 sisters, Velma Smith and Willie Brinsfield all of Checotah and a host of other nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.Funeral services for Ruth will be held on Monday, April 5, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Checotah with Rev. Steve Dennis officiating. Casket bearers will be grandsons, Alan Winkle, John Winkle, Joe Winkle, Jerry Schroader, Brian Paine and Riley Duvall. Honorary casket bearers will be Chris Winkle, Caleb Nutt and Scott Schroader. Interment will follow services in Greenlawn Cemetery, Checotah, OK. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the First Baptist Church Nursery Department. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hampton Mortuary, Checotah.
