Helen Borges (1923-2009)

Helen Borges, 86, of Crescent City, died Jan. 11, 2009, at a local care facility of natural causes.

She was born Jan. 10, 1923, in Beechton, Okla., to Robert Lee and Mary (Harris) Whisenhunt.

On Dec. 24, 1966, she married Anthony Borges in Reno, Nev. The Borges have made their home in Crescent City for the last 16 years.

Helen had attended the Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening, and especially loved being a grandmother.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John Lee Shaw of Grants Pass, Ore., and Larry B. Shaw of Billings, Mont.; two brothers, Harlton Whisenhunt and wife Helen of Mena, Ark., and Robert Whisenhunt; sisters Bonnie Laird of Houston and Marie Bates of Mena; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William H. Shaw.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St., Brookings, Ore.

Inurnment was at the Crescent City Odd Fellows Cemetery.
