Mary W. Rodgers

MAIDEN - Mary Lee Whisenant Rodgers, 93, of North Fifth Avenue, Maiden, passed away Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care in Valdese. Born Sept. 23, 1916, in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Gray Whisenant and Allie Harris Whisenant. In addition to her parents, her husband, Frank Rodgers, and two sisters, Clara Cline and Lora Griffin, preceded her in death. She is survived by one daughter, Becky Benton and husband, Willard, of Valdese; one granddaughter, Roxie Ellis and husband, Blair, of Morganton; one great-grandson, Morgan Ellis of Carrboro; and special niece and nephew, Wilma Boggia and Joe Cline of Valdese. The funeral will be held Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Burke Mortuary chapel in Maiden, with the Rev. Noel Schoonmaker officiating. Burial will follow in Maiden City Cemetery in Maiden. The family will receive friends prior to the service Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, from 10 to 10:45 a.m., at Burke Mortuary chapel in Maiden.
