Daniel W. Whisnant

GRANITE FALLS - Daniel Walter Whisnant, 61, of Granite Falls, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Brian Center of Hickory-Viewmont. He was born April 25, 1947, in Caldwell County to the late Walter Lee Whisnant and Florence A. Scott Whisnant. In addition to his parents, Mr. Whisnant was preceded in death by two nephews and a sister-in-law. Mr. Whisnant was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Harris Chapel Baptist Church. He also was a member of the American Legion and National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife, Mary Whisnant of the home; a daughter, Laura Clonch and her husband, Cregg, of Granite Falls; two sisters, Linda Mclean and her husband, Gary, of Hudson, and Brenda Piercy and her husband, John, of Granite Falls; and three brothers, Walter Whisnant of the Sawmills community, Larry Whisnant and his wife, Jan, of Lenoir and Dale Whisnant and his wife, Jenny, of Virginia. Mr. Whisnant also is survived by 16 nieces and nephews and a number of other friends and family. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at Bass-Smith Granite chapel, with the Rev. Waitsel Beard officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. prior to the service at Bass-Smith Granite Funeral Service. Memorials may be made to the family at 5427 Pembrooke Drive, Granite Falls, N.C. 28630.
