Gladys Park

First woman juror in Walker County

Gladys Park was born Sept. 27, 1912 in Lufkin, Texas, to Autrey and Lela (Delaney) Whisenant, and she passed away Nov. 27, 2004, in Houston.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Nov. 30, 2004, at the Chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Rodger Garbs and Rev. Debbie Drost officiating. Interment is at 2 p.m. at Park Cemetery in Madison County under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.

She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone where she was an operator. She was the first woman called to be on a jury in Walker County.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Walter L. Park, her parents and infant child and her brother, Clarence Whisenant. Survivors include her sister, Velma Clepper along with numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many, many friends.
