Carol Sue W. Melton

FORT MILL - Ms. Carol Sue W. Melton, 69, of 128 Joshua Case Court, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2009, at Carolinas Cornerstone Church, with the Rev. Barry Yates officiating and Dr. Larry Harrison assisting. Burial will follow in Unity Cemetery in Fort Mill.

A native of Rock Hill, Sue was a daughter of the late Stephen Laxton and Esther Merritt Whisonant and the widow of James David Melton Sr. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was a member of Carolinas Cornerstone Church and retired from Hoescht-Celanese Corporation, where she worked as a doffer for over 38 years.

Surviving are her son, David Melton and wife, Becky, of Myrtle Beach; four daughters, Wanda M. Owens of Indian Land, Melanie M. Yates and husband, Larry, of Fort Mill, Angela M. Burrill of Summerville and Monica M. Barfield and husband, Mark, of Indian Land; her sister, Sybil W. Lacy and husband, Jack, of Fort Mill; 10 grandchildren, Ashley Melton Williams, J.D. Melton, Mitch Melton, Hannah Owens and her fiancé, Joel McClennen, Josh Yates, Dustin Yates, Kevin Burrill, Brandon Burrill, Wesley Barfield and Kyleigh Barfield; and two great-grandchildren, Bella Williams and Mackenzie McClennen. In addition to her parents and husband, Sue was preceded in death by two brothers, Otis Laxton Whisonant and Grady Cole Whisonant, as well as her sisters, Barbara Johnson and Billie Miles.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2009, at Carolinas Cornerstone Church and other times at the home of her daughter, Melanie Yates, 1056 Honeybee Trail, Fort Mill, S.C.
