Willis N. “Bill” Whisenhunt

Mr. Willis “Bill” Whisenhunt, age 84, of Gatesville, died on Thursday, August 25, 2005, at a Temple hospital.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 27, at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Doug Bates and Walter Davidson officiating. Burial was in the Ater Cemetery.

Mr. Whisenhunt was born on May 8, 1921, in Ater, Texas, to the late William and Vera Mae Timmons Whisenhunt. He attended the Murrel School in Ater. He graduated from Jonesboro High School. He went to trade school in Dallas and then went to work for North American Aviation. He entered the U.S. Army in 1944, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He then went to work for Gulf Oil Co. in Dallas and later transferred to San Antonio, where he worked for over 20 years. He moved to Gatesville in 1967 and worked for Deck Boat for a number of years. After his retirement, he farmed and ranched the family farm in Ater. He married Dee Etta Stubblefield on June 12, 1991. He served on the Ater Cemetery Board for many years. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herschel Whisenhunt.

He is survived by his wife, Dee Etta Whisenhunt of Gatesville; stepchildren, Susan Snoddy and husband Ronnie of Gatesville and Adrian New and wife Christy of Sherman; sisters, Gwen Sellers and husband Jack of Gatesville and LaRue Hopson and husband Gayle of Huntsville; grandchildren, Dylan and Baylee Snoddy and Scarlet and Graycie Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
