Donald Whisenant
COLLINSVILLE - Funeral services for Donald Eugene "Don" Whisenant, 79, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 19, 2010 at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro with Rev. Keith Byrom officiating. Interment will follow at Collinsville Cemetery. No formal visitation is planned.
Don passed away on Friday, July 16, 2010 at Texoma Health Presbyterian-WNJ Hospital in Sherman.
He was born on April 21, 1931 in Choctaw, Okla. to Hollis and Nevoda (McCammon) Whisenant. He married Vala Jo Cassady on March 31, 1950 in Fort Smith, Ark. Don served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956. He was a flight engineer for American Airlines for 25 years. Don never met a stranger and could fix anything.
He is survived by his wife, Vala Jo Whisenant of Collinsville; daughters, Diana Johnson and husband, Jeff of Whitesboro and Cindy Whisenant of Collinsville; a sister, Shirley McConnell and husband, Bill of Choctaw, Okla.; grandchildren, Megan Johnson of Whitesboro and Jarrett Whisenant of Collinsville; several nieces and nephews; and loving friends, Greg and Kay Montgomery, and Gene and Peggy Hoenig.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Russell, Hollis and Raymond Whisenant; and a sister, Winnie Vaught.
Pallbearers are Greg Montgomery, Jason Montgomery, Jeff Johnson, Randy Thomas, Mark Byrom and Jim May.
