Memorial Services for DOUGLAS M. WHISENHUNT will be held on Friday, February 20, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Metcalf Funeral Chapel in Conroe, Texas. Rev Wayne Smith will be officiating the service. Interment will follow at Cude Cemetery with Metcalf Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements. Douglas M. Whisenhunt, 86 was born on August 14, 1922 in Gatesville, Texas and passed away on February 17, 2009 in Conroe, Texas. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Thelma Ward Whisenhunt, father Claude Whisenhunt, mother Jewel McCarver Whisenhunt, son in law William "Willie" Walker of Conroe, brother C.C."Jack" Whisenhunt of San Antonio, sister Peggy Chambers of Boerne, brother Verdis "Bert" Whisenhunt of Gatesville, sister Virginia Thomas of California. Survived by daughter Sandra Whisenhunt Walker of Conroe, grandson William "Will" Walker of Conroe, sister Joy Palmer & husband Ray Palmer of Ft. Worth, sisters Patty McDonald & Dorothy Clark of California & numerous cousins, nieces, nephews & lifelong friends. Douglas M. Whisenhunt was a proud Texan & American who served his country in the United States Navy Seabees 52nd during World War II. Doug met his wife, Thelma on the square in downtown Conroe after his tour in the Navy. They were married on May 8, 1948 & made their home in Conroe. He worked throughout Montgomery County & surrounding counties as a commercial & residential building contractor until his retirement. He was a distinguished Fellow of the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors, member of NAWCC Southwestern Chapter 15 & San Jacinto Chapter 139 as well as a expert clock repairman. Doug enjoyed the Gulf Coast saltwater fishing, watching old westerns especially Gunsmoke and having breakfast at the Kettle Restaurant with friends most every morning.
