Azalea Genevieve Whisenhunt Gardner, 84, passed away Oct. 15, 2005, at her residence in O'Neill, Neb. A funeral mass was held Oct. 19, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill, Neb. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Jonesboro Baptist Church in Jonesboro, Texas, followed by inurnment at the Ater Cemetery.
Azalea Gardner was born in Coryell County, Texas, to the late Ausie and Willie Whisenhunt. She resided and worked in the Central Texas area near Austin during most of her adult life. She was a radiology technician at the Austin State School for more than 20 years. She retired in 1988 and then spent much of her time painting, traveling, sewing and enjoying card playing.
She is survived by her children, Martia Furlow and husband, John, of Carrollton, Texas, Dian Edwards and husband, Bill, of Inman, Neb., and Robert Kirkpatrick and wife, Ellen, of College Station, Texas; sisters, Guinevere Owen, of Clinton, Texas, and Hermione Ashby, of Gatesville, Texas; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
