Donald Robert "Don" Whisnant Sr.
A retired account executive with The Standard Register Co. and a native of New Orleans, he died at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at his home in Baton Rouge. He was 72 and a U.S. Navy veteran. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Sunday, Nov. 23, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes in the chapel on Monday from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11:30 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Mike Ferguson. Interment with military honors in Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary. Survived by his wife, Claudette DeWitt Whisnant; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Wade and Mary Whisnant, Christopher and Elizabeth Whisnant, Timothy Whisnant, Donald Jr. and Laura Whisnant, and Thomas and Brandy Whisnant; brother, Thomas "Pete" Whisnant, of New Orleans; lifelong friends, Gordon and Anny Barney, of Baton Rouge; 14 grandchildren, Richard, Kristine, Katherine, Christopher, Andrew, Jonathan, Stephen, Patrick, Abigail, Sarah, Mary Parker, Addison Whisnant, Jennifer and Kris Wilkens, and Jarrod and Megan Whisnant; and two great-grandchildren, Kayden Wilkens and Ava Whisnant. Preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Bertha Whisnant; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Catherine DeWitt. Pallbearers will be his seven grandsons. He enjoyed spending his retirement years at his farm in Tylertown, Miss., which he referred to as "The Flat Wallet Farm."
