Luther Whisnant

Luther James Whisnant, 79, of Collettsville Road, Lenoir died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at Caldwell County Hospice.

He was born Jan. 1, 1925 in Caldwell County to the late Luther W. Whisnant and Maude Pendergrast Whisnant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Whisnant Justice; and a brother, Eugene Edmond Whisnant.

Mr. Whisnant was retired from the furniture industry and a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include two brothers, Ray D. Whisnant and Claude R. Whisnant, both of Lenoir and three sisters, Lillian Whisnant Crisp of Lenoir, Margaret Whisnant Church of Hickory, and Helen Whisnant Reese of Lenoir.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m. at Pendry's Chapel with the Rev. Harold Joplin officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 7, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Pendry's Funeral Home.
