Jewel Abbott

Died Jan. 25, 2010

Jewel Abbott, 84, died Monday.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Abbott; son, Rick Abbott; parents, George Harley and Dovie Griggs Whisenant; brother, Arnold Whisenant; and four sisters, Audrey Shannon, Francis Tucker, Esther Upchurch and Cornell Whisenant.

Mrs. Abbott is survived by her son, Steve Abbott and wife Kay; grandsons, Clint Abbott, Blake Abbott and wife Larissa; and sister, Camilla Hanners of Duluth, Ga.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home in Decatur. The service will follow in the chapel at 7 p.m. with Gary Patton officiating. A private graveside service will be held Friday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley or the Alzheimer's Association.

The family would also like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff members of The Terrace at Priceville and Riverside Senior Living for their devotion and care for our mother and grandmother.
