Winnie Whisenant
Winnie Whisenant, 97, of Amarillo died Sunday, April 5, 2009.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Max Biggs, Assembly of God minister, officiating.
Winnie was born Nov. 22, 1911, in Archer County. She moved to Amarillo more than 75 years ago.
She was a lifelong member of the Assembly of God. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved cooking and gardening.
Winnie had a good nature with a warm and caring heart and had friends everywhere she went. She became "Granny" to everyone.
Her family would like to say thank you to Luz Reyes, a dear and special friend.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Whisenant; four daughters, Bessie Rhodes, Edith Whitfield, Wilma Jean and Kathryn Whisenant; her husband, Johnny Whisenant; and two grandsons, Lonnie and Leon Hall.
Survivors include her last living child, a son, Lester Whisenant and wife Jeannie of Odessa; a brother, Jimmy Hughlett of New Mexico; a sister, Billie Erwin of California; a sister-in-law, Joyce Whisenant of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren, Ricky Searcy of Oregon, Judy Brown and Kathy Martinez, both of California, Beverly Dunham, Jerry Little and Jimmy Little, all of Amarillo, Pattie Venegas, Kenneth Little of Virginia, Darla Bish and Tonja Smith, both of Houston, and Danny Whisenant; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
