Mrs. Ruth L. (Whisenhunt) Doster
1923 - 2009

Ruth L. Whisenhunt Doster, age 86, of Glenwood, died Saturday, December 5, 2009. She was born on September 29, 1923 at Lodi, the daughter of William Wesley "Pat" Whisenhunt and Opal Hanson Whisenhunt. On February 1, 1940, she was married to Winston Doster. She was preceded in death by her son, Royce Doster; her grandson, Keith Markham; her great-grandson, Dawson Markham; her parents; two brothers, Bill Whisenhunt and Lowell Whisenhunt; and her sister, Estelle Whisenhunt. She was known as one of the best cooks in the area and worked at several of the local restaurants. She was a member of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was active through the years in the Ladies Auxiliary and youth activities. Ruth was an avid reader of the Scriptures and loved arts and crafts. She is survived by her husband, Winston Doster of Glenwood; six children and their spouses, Cherryl and Gerald Grant of Kirby, Terry and Gayle Doster of Kirby, Gail and Melvin Markham of Glenwood, Dana and Gene Horn of Glenwood, Tammy and Danny Reese of Dallas, Texas and Kelly and Tammie Doster of Glenwood; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Lorene Skates of Amity. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, December 7, 2009 in the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Bobby Golden, Bro. Glynn Self and Bro. Melvin Markham officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Coker Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Dan Funderburk, Paul Doster, Shane Markham, Ryan Horn, P. J. Horn and Mark Reese.
