Betty Ann Whisenhunt Doan

MERKEL -- Betty Ann Whisenhunt Doan, 74, died Friday, July 16, 2004 at her home. Services will be 2:00 p.m. today at Merkel First United Methodist Church with Reverend Curtis Bentley officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.

Betty was born July 17, 1929 in Terrell to John William and Alyce Frankie Nelson Oliver. She married G.R. "Jack" Whisenhunt on September 7, 1947; he preceded her in death on November 9, 1964. She married Samuel F. "Sammy" Doan on January 11, 1969 in San Angelo; he preceded her in death on August 21, 2001. Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She graduated from Trent High School. Betty worked in the nurse's office at Merkel ISD for 27 years, retiring this year.

Survivors include four daughters, Ann Kiser and husband Mark of Sylvester, Alyce Carter of Merkel, Shelle Campbell and husband Gary of San Antonio and Vickie Doan of Abilene; two sons, Bill Whisenhunt and wife Kathryn of Merkel and Steve Doan of Merkel; one brother, Johnny Oliver of Midland; one sister, Pat Owen of Merkel; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands; a brother, Jimmy Oliver; and a grandson, Shane.
