Jewell Ione Burrell Whisnant

February 23, 1918 - October 28, 2008

Mrs. Jewell Ione Burrell Whisnant, 90, of Danielsville, GA, died Tuesday, October 28, 2008 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens.

Born February 23, 1918 in Habersham County, she was a daughter of the late Altus and Ola Black Burrell and was the widow of Lloyd Oliver Whisnant.

She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Royston, GA, the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class, and was a homemaker.

Family members include seven daughters, Melinda Payne of Alpharetta, GA, Hilda “Gidget” Pearson of , Danielsville, GA, Lynn Bross of Irvine, CA, Loydene Barton of Mission Viejo, CA, Deborah Everette of Braselton, GA, Joan Dailey of Eastanollee, GA and Pat Simmons of Toccoa, GA; three sons, Danny Whisnant and Irvin Whisnant both of Carnesville, GA and Edward Whisnant of Martin, GA; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Leonard Whisnant and Joel Oliver Whisnant; four brothers, Earnest Burrell of Gainesville, GA, Aubry Burrell of Clarkesville, GA, Junior Burrell of Toccoa, and Harold Burrell of Oklahoma City, OK; a sister, Evie Burrell of Atlanta, GA.

Funeral services will be held at Two o’clock Friday, October 31, 2008 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Robert Thomas and the Rev. Joe Wood officiating.

Burial will follow in Rose Lane Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Dennis Dailey, 106 Fieldcrest Drive, Eastanollee and will receive friends at the mortuary from 6pm - 9pm Thursday evening.
