William Lafayette Whisnant Sr.

Mr. Whisnant, age 86 of 3600 Cypress Club Dr, Charlotte, NC died October 2, 2008 at home.

Mr. Whisnant was born June 22, 1922 in Charlotte, NC to the late Charles Loundes and Esther Neely Whisnant. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Margaret Fant Whisnant, and by his brother Dr. Charles L. Whisnant. Mr. Whisnant graduated from Clemson University in 1947. He received a Purple Heart for his service as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army during WWII. He was a textile executive with Burlington Industries for 39 years, while living in Burlington NC, Greensboro NC, Galax VA, and Rocky Mount, NC. He retired in 1984 and relocated to River Hills, SC. Bill and Margaret moved to The Cypress of Charlotte in 1999.

Survivors are his son, Bill Whisnant, Jr. and wife Stephanie of Saratoga, CA; daughter, Patty Cease and husband Clymer of Cary, NC; three grandchildren, Brian Whisnant and wife Dianna of Charlotte, NC, Ashley Whisnant of San Jose, CA, and Elizabeth Cease of Arlington, VA; and his dear friend Sally Padgett of Charlotte, NC.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday October 7, 2008 at Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Rd, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends following the service.
