Ethel (Whisenant) Collins
Funeral Services for Mrs. Ethel Whisenant Collins, of Ohatchee, will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Ohatchee First Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Howard Taylor will officiate. Visitation tonight 6 - 8 at the funeral home. Arrangements entrusted to Gadsden Memorial Funeral. Mrs. Ethel Whisenant Collins (Granny) was born to the parentage of the late Mr. Jim and Mrs. Lizzie Whisenant, on February 21, 1912, Calhoun County, Alabama. Ethel and Desque Collins were united in Holy Matrimony in late 1928. To this union six children were born. She was preceded in death by four children, three brothers and five sisters. Ethel accepted Christ at an early age, she joined the Ohatchee First Missionary Baptist Church. Ethel is the Mother of the Church. She served as a Missionary, sang in the choir and was a Bible student. She was a very devoted person until her health failed. Ethel leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Mrs. Angeline (Isiah) Parker, of Ohatchee and Mrs. Eva (Eddie) Traynham, of Douglasville, Georgia; one stepson, David Collins, of Gadsden; one adopted sister, Mrs. Lillia Smith, of Ohatchee; two brothers, Mr. Mack Wilma Whisenant, of Gadsden and Mr. Azell Whisenant, of Ohatchee; 24 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Whisenant; one brother-in-law, Mr. Sonny Woodruff; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family members and friends, who were a precious part of her life whom she loved.
