Nellie Louise Whisenant
Nellie Louise Whisenant, the most wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend was lost on Saturday, February 28, 2009. She entered into the gates of Heaven to live eternally with her Lord and Savior. A chapel service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Jerry McCright and Pastor Larry Garrard officiating. Burial will follow at Howelton United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Whisenant was known to all as "Nannie" and was a faithful member of Howelton United Methodist Church and former member of Cherry Street Baptist Church most her life. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and cooking. Fried pies and cakes were her specialty. She always made sure her son had a homemade biscuit every morning.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Whisenant; parents, George Thomas Duke and Ola Francis Duke; and brother, Robert L. Duke.
She is survived by her son, Montie Ray (Charlotte) Whisenant; granddaughters, April Whisenant and Summer (Josh) Gilley; grandsons, Chet Whisenant and Anthony (Christy) Grigsby; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Ali Grigsby; sisters, Ruth Thacker, Mildred Lister and Quinelene Biggs; chosen daughter, Paula Mayo; and special friends, Red and Susan Rowan, Donna Ashley and Sheri Ashley.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Southern Care Hospice, especially nurses Stacy, Nakita, Jan and the fourth-floor staff at Riverview Regional Medical Center. Thank you to the many wonderful people who have visited and prayed for and with our family. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
Pallbearers will be Herchel Lister, Bert Lister, Ray Rowan, Mike Brown, Lamar Rosson and George Simmons.
A visitation will be held at Collier-Butler from 6 until 8 p.m. tonight.
