Lankie Whisenant, Sr.
Lankie Lee Whisenant, Sr., 73, of Westbrook Street, Lenoir died Monday, July 19, 2004 at Caldwell County Hospice.
He was born Dec. 12, 1930 in Caldwell County to the late William Leonard and Minnie Coffey Whisenant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Lankie Lee Whisenant, Jr.; seven brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Whisenant was retired from J.S. Trogdon and was a member of Grace Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Barbara Knight Whisenant of the home; two sons, Daniel Leonard Whisenant of Atlanta, Ga. and Claude Richard Whisenant of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Charlene Warhurst of Lenoir and Cynthia Lee Mashburn of Marion; nine grandchildren, Dora Lynn Clark and Troy Chester Warhurst, Jr. both of Lenoir, Cynthia Ann Cannon of Granite Falls, Katherine Marie Whisenant of Atlanta, Michael James Mashburn and Aaron Lee Mashburn both of Marion, Wesley Daniel Whisenant, Zachery Joseph Whisenant and Luke Andrew Whisenant all of Nashville, Tenn. and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 22, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Bill Wright and Rev. David Bean. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
