Thelma Elaine Whisnant Lopeman

Longtime Jefferson County resident Thelma Elaine Lopeman died in Port Townsend at age 77.
She was born is Cosmopolis to Edgar and Alice (Ulbrikson) Whisnat, and moved to Port Ludlow as a child.
She graduated from Chimacum High School in 1944. She married Bill Lopeman On Dec. 6, 1946.
Mrs. Lopeman was postmaster in Chimacum for many years before retiring in 1986. She enjoyed salmon fishing, and in 1966 was the first woman to win the Port Townsend Salmon Derby. She also enjoyed flowers and gardening.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, Mrs. Lopeman's survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Bill and Colette Lopeman, Randy and Linda Lopeman and Mark and Tammy Lopeman, all of Chimacum; sisters Virginia McCloud of Vancouver, Wash., Marlene Yaunkunks of Salem, Ore., Barbara Barnes of Puyallup, Linda Lacosse of Port Townsend and Mickey Williams of Port Hadlock; and seven grandchildren.
Services: At her request, none. A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor Saturday, Jan. 31, 2-5 p.m., in the Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St., Port Townsend. Kosec Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
