Whisenant, John

Services for John Whisenant, brother of Sarah Brewer of Coffeen, were held at 11 this morning in Perfetti Funeral Home, Sorento. The Rev. Linda Peyla officiated. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery at Reno. Mr. Whisenant died at 5 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 1999, in St. James Hospital, Chicago Heights after an illness of four months. He was 61 years old on June 10. He spent most of his life in the Chicago area and was a member of the Steel Workers Union there. His early years were spent in Alabama. He was born in Jappa, Alabama, a son of Owen and Mae Humphries Whisenant. He married Sharon Brewer on June 20, 1959, in Chicago. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Owen John Whisenant of Chicago; a daughter, Loralee Avecillas of Chicago; his mother, Mae Whisenant; brothers, Milford Whisenant of Cullman, Ala., Robert, Donald and Buford Whisenant, all of Arab, Ala.; other sisters, Jane Davidson of Florida, Mary Dowell of Indiana, Jean Carr of Arab and Kathy Nickels of Huntsville, Ala.; and one grandchild.
