Harold "Whiz" Whisenant

GREENSBORO — Mr. Harold "Whiz" Whisenant, 84, departed from this life on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at Moses Cone Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2010, at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Steve Pressley officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.

He was born in Morganton, NC on December 20, 1925, to the late John D. and Ida Bowman Whisenant. He worked with the Greensboro ‘News and Record' for 41 years. Harold was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher. He loved Duke Basketball and was an avid golfer.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Betty Bradley Whisenant; children, Jim Whisenant and wife Lisa, Debbie W. Nunn and husband Eddie both of Greensboro , and Mark Whisenant of Raleigh; grandchildren, Matt Whisenant (Candace), Scott Whisenant (Jennifer) Alex Whisenant and Michael Nunn; great granddaughter Graham Whisenant and brother Ernest Whisenant.

The family would like to thank the medical community for the care given to Harold during his illness.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Hanes Lineberry Vanstory Chapel and at other times at the home of the daughter.
