Beth Joan Whisenant Lindsey

Beth Joan Whisenant Lindsey, 87, passed away Friday, Oct. 22, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.

Funeral services were held at 2 pm Monday, Oct. 25, at the First Baptist Church in Hollis with Rev. Ron Ledbetter officiating. Interment followed in the Fairmount Cemetery.

Beth was born Apr. 11, 1924 in Hollis to Ben and Edna Williams Whisenant. She was a lifelong resident of Hollis. She was a homemaker first and foremost, although she worked many other jobs to raise her two daughters. She took great pride in raising her children, grandchildren, niece, nephews, a foster daughter and many others.

She loved to sew which was evident in the pretty frilly dresses she made each week in order for Sabra to have a new one each Sunday for Sunday School and also for Becky on special occasions.

Beth loved crossword puzzles, growing flowers, canning and watching Kevin work on her house. Her biggest passion was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her extended family. "Momma Beffies" was happiest when her family gathered at her home for Sunday dinner, or any other occasion where she could cook one of her many fabulous dinners followed by yummy coconut cream pie. The more there were for her to feed, the better she liked it.

Survivors included: her daughter, Vicky Burkhalter, and husband Jerry Johnson of Hollis; one granddaughter, Sabra Jouett and husband David of Sapulpa; five grandsons, Steve Hubanks of Sapulpa, Cary Mills of Weatherford, Kevin Mills and LaGena of Hollis, Cyle Crosnoe and Whitney of Chickasha, and Lane Hayes and Amy of Arlington, TX; 10 great granddaughters, Melissa, Kayleigh, Jennifer, Courtney, Lindsey, Lynda Beth, Taylor, Meghan, Kayleigh, and Brooklyn; 10 great grandsons, Charlie, Sammmy, Alex, Austin, Mayfield, Copeland, Cathan, Jake, Kreede and Kadyn, six great-great granddaughters and four great-great grandsons. She is also survived by two nieces, Janice Whisenant and Goldie Perry; two nephews, Ben Whisenant and Glen Whisenant; six great nieces, Michelle, Denise, Lita, Benita, Becky and Lauren, four great nephews: Brad, Mark, Jason and Wesley, and four great-great nieces and seven great-great nephews, one foster daughter Sandy Vivlaska and her children, Kelli, Kerri, Kori and Curtis.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ben Christian Whisenant, her mother, Edna Williams Whisenant, her daughter, Lynda Nell Hayes, two brothers, Glen Joel Whisenant (her twin) and Ben Whisenant, Jr. and one great granddaughter, DeeDee Jackson.
