Mr. Carroll Eugene Whisnant Sr.
HICKORY - Carroll Eugene Whisnant Sr., 70, of Hickory passed away October 2nd 2010, after a period of declining health.
Carroll was born June 26th, 1940 in Catawba County to the late Roscoe Clyde Whisnant and Vergie Smart Whisnant.
Carroll was a member of the Baptist faith. He was the co-owner of Whisnant and Hunsucker Construction Company.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Worth John Whisnant, Larry Ray Whisnant, Harvey William Whisnant and one sister, Eva Huffman.
Surviving are his wife; Dorothy Sue Huss Whisnant of Hickory, daughter, Jacqueline Mason and husband Donald of Gastonia, two sons; Carroll Eugene Whisnant Jr. and wife Lisa of Lenoir and Shannon Allen Whisnant and wife Lisa of Maiden, ex-wife, Shirley Bowman Whisnant of Longview, granddaughter, Danielle Nicole Whisnant of Lenoir, granddaughter, Nakisha Armstrong and husband Stephen of Gastonia, grandson, Alan Ray Mason of Gastonia, great-granddaughter, Abigail Leigh Armstrong of Gastonia, and great-grandson, Sawyer Harrison Armstrong of Gastonia. Sister, Margaret Bolick and husband Jack of Vale, sister, Coleen Young and husband Paul of Hickory, brother, Olain Whisnant and wife Lois of Lenoir, brother, Ezell Whisnant and wife Evelyn, brother, Jerry Whisnant and wife Ann of Vale, and brother, Dennis Whisnant and wife Helen of Casar. Step Daughter, Lynn Houser and husband Jason of Carolina Beach, step daughter, Susan Walker and husband Mark of Lincolnton, and step son, James Huss Jr. and wife Casey of Hickory Seven step-grandchildren, Heather Walker, Megan Walker, Melissa Houser Bonham, Jonathan Houser, Kirsten Crock, Gage Massey, Cayson Huss, and five step-great grandchildren, Jeremey Houser, Haleigh Houser, Zackary Bonham, Ricky Houser, Austin Finger.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 5th at 2:00 P.M. at Valley Haven Camp and Retreat Center (Parson of the Hills Camp Joy) with the Reverend Keith Huss and Earnest Richards officiating.
Burial will follow at Providence Baptist church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday October 4th from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel.
