SUSAN WHISNANTE

Mrs. Susan Barnes Whisnante, 63 of Mansfield passed away February 24, 2011 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. Susan was born in Atlanta to the late Charles Byron and Margie Smith Barnes. She graduated from Loganville High School in 1965. She was affectionately known as "Big Mama" to her friends and she had many. She loved helping others however she could. She could talk to anybody about anything and she never met a stranger. She was fun loving and energetic. Susan was a member of Rutledge First United Methodist Church and a dedicated volunteer at the former Rutledge Academy. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was predeceased by her husband Reuben L. Whisnante in 2002. Susan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Kye and Chris Haymore, son and daughter-in-law Kasey and Keeli Whisnante, her mother-in-law Lillian Whisnante, all of Mansfield, grandchildren Warth Haymore and Kaitlyn Whisnante, nieces Cindy Ellison and Amanda Crowe, nephews Andy Ozburn and Randy Ozburn, sister-in-law Vickie Ozburn, brother-in-law Alvin Whisnante, aunts Donna Sue Mitchell, Lou L. Brewer, Zalia Smith and Barbara Ann McMichael and many other extended family members. Her family will receive friends on Saturday, February 26th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at Harwell-Wheeler Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 27th at 3:00 PM at First United Methodist Church of Covington with Rev. Douglas Gilreath, Rev Don Hardison, Rev. John Whatley and her dear friend Ann Zimmermann officiating. A graveside committal service will follow at Shoal Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Mansfield. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Covington General Budget Fund or the Capital Campaign or Achievement Adventure Autism Summer Camp Horse Time, Inc., 10385 Hwy 278E., Covington, GA. 30014.
