Roy G Whisenhunt (1930-2011)

ODESSA Roy G. Whisenhunt, 81 of Odessa, passed away May 21, 2011 after a short illness.

Roy was born March 1, 1930 in Odessa to the late George and Omie Whisenhunt. Roy was a lifetime resident of Odessa. He graduated from Odessa High School and was a member of the 1946 State Championship football team. Roy graduated from Odessa College and attended both Texas Tech and Texas A&M. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.

Roy married Betty Schmidt in August of 1956. They had three sons: Rod, Ray and Reggie. Roy worked in the oilfields of west Texas as a young man roughnecking and then as an oilfield salesman. He spent a number of years with the City of Odessa in the Planning and Inspection Department. Later, he worked for the Foreman Electric and Dixie Electric. Roy enjoyed his retirement and lived a quiet and peaceful life.

Roy is also preceded in death by his wife, Betty who passed away in 1984.

He is survived by his son Rod Whisenhunt and wife Joy, daughter Robin and son Roger, son Ramon Whisenhunt and wife Tanada and son Michael, son Reggie Whisenhunt and son Jeffry.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 24, at Sunset Funeral Home with graveside services at 11 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Hospice House of Odessa, 903 N Sam Houston, Odessa, TX.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Funeral Home.
