Guy Whisnant
Guy Richard (Huto) Whisnant, 65, of Valdese, died Thursday June 30, 2011, at Burke Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, Valdese, after a period of declining health. Mr. Whisnant was born Feb. 7, 1946, in Burke County to the late Duerrel and Essie Mae Brittian Whisnant. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired construction worker. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Jay, Valmer, Fred, and Alb Whisnant and three sisters, Kathren (Guy) Whisnant, Sarah Cannon, and Virginia (Harry) Dellinger. Surviving are his wife, Martha Faye Powell Whisnant; one step-son, Harvey (Vi) Anderson; three step-daughters, Melissa Piercy, Sherry (Eddie) Teague and Doris (Tim )Williams. Also surviving are his seven step-grandchildren, Michael Piercy, Niki Teague, Kim Kincaid, Kelly Anderson, Jimmy Hendrickson, Cory Teague, Keri Anderson, six step-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 2, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, with Rev. Dr. Avery Owenby officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in honor of Huto. Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory is assisting the Whisnant family.
