Johnny Whisenant Jr.
Johnny Whisenant, Jr. MORGANTON Johnny H. Whisenant, Jr., 58, of Morganton, died Saturday, July 16, 2011 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Burke County, Aug. 19, 1952, he was the son of the late John Herman Whisenant and Mary Owens Whisenant. Johnny retired from Henredon Furniture after 40 years. He loved to work in his woodshop making crafts and finishing furniture. Johnny is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Ann Brown Whisenant of the home; a daughter, Cyndi Chaney and husband, Donovan, of Charlotte; step-children, Morgan Brown and Leigh Ann Brown Whisenant and husband, Curtis, all of Morganton; a grandchild, Gracie Brown; a brother, Jimmy Whisenant and wife, Cindy, of Valdese; a sister, Jackie Baker and husband, Carroll, of Morganton; and a niece, Kristi Byers and husband, Brian, of Morganton. In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Jane Whisenant and Judy Harrison. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Rev. Allen Fredell officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, July 19, 2011 from 6 until 8:30 p.m. At other times the family will be at John's home.
