Bobby Hershel Whisenant
Pilot Point – Bobby Hershel Whisenant, 78, of Pilot Point, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2008, in Denton, TX. He was born on April 22, 1930 in Tioga, TX to Medford Marcus and Lizzie Belle Brannum Whisenant, Sr. He married Barbara Ann Dunn on July 2, 1960 in Denton. He served as the Mayor of Pilot Point from 1976 - 1979; he also served as the Director of Chamber of Commerce 1973 - 1974, and as President 1974 – 1975. In 1976, he was Pilot Point Bicentennial Commission "Chairman of Festival Committee". He was also awarded Citizen of the Year in 1976. In 1986, he was awarded Pilot Point Chamber of Commerce "Distinguished Citizen", and was awarded a Bravo Award by Pilot Point Independent School District in 1992.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Pilot Point, Dr. Philip Riegel will officiate. Burial will follow at Pilot Point Community Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 23, 2008, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Huff/Slay Funeral Home in Pilot Point.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Whisenant of Pilot Point; one son, John Paul Whisenant of Pilot Point; and two daughters, Bobbie Elaine Whisenant of Houston and Lisa Ann Rose of Pilot Point. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Ryan Whisenant, Wynter Schoekey, Cameron Rose and Trevor Rose; one brother, Buddy Whisenant of Ft. Worth; and three sisters, Evelyn Hoffman of Ft. Worth, Elizabeth Shearer of Mustang and Molly Soward of Ft. Worth.
He is preceded in death by son, Paul Hayward Whisenant; sister, Virginia Nelson; brothers, Ferrell Whisenant and Medford Whisenant.
Services are under the direction of Huff/Slay Funeral Home, Pilot Point, TX.
