Leora E. Whisnand
CHARLESTON - Leora E. Whisnand, 96, of Charleston, formerly of Kansas, died at 11:05 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 7, 2008) at her residence. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Standard Funeral Home in Oakland with Rev. Charles Shelquist officiating. Burial will be in the Harmony Cemetery, north of Kansas. Visitation will be from 12 p.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday. She was born on May 23, 1912, in Coles County, the daughter of Luther and Sara Tracy Kindel. She married Lyle Whisnand in 1957; he died in 1976. Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Galbreath of Charleston; one brother, George Kindel of Charleston; one sister, Marietta Uphoff of Mattoon; one grandson; one step granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; four great-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Mrs. Whisnand worked for Brown Shoe Company, General Electric and National Lock Company. She was a homemaker and farm wife. She was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church, the Kansas Order of the Eastern Star and Harmony Circle. She volunteered at Lee Memorial Hospital in Ft. Myers, Fla.
