James L. "Hot Dog" Whisenant
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Attalla for Mr. James L. "Hot Dog" Whisenant, 69, Gadsden, who passed away on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011. The Rev. Jim Beck will officiate the service. Interment to follow at Hopewell Cemetery.
Mr. Whisenant was a native of Ashville and member of Goodyear Heights Baptist Church. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and a retiree of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. Mr. Whisenant was preceded in death by his wife, Sallie Whisenant; parents, Prince and Effie Whisenant; and brother, Billie Mack Whisenant.
Survivors include son, Ben (Tressa) Bryant, Atlanta; daughter, Michielle (Carey) Ray, Gadsden; sisters, Frances Whisenant, Ashville, Margaret Whisenant, Boaz; brother, Bo (Bonnie) Whisenant, Ashville; grandchildren, Colton Ray, U.S. Navy, Devin Ray, Gadsden, Parker Ray, Gadsden, Garryn Ray, Gadsden, Kearin Bryant, Atlanta, Ga., Cayden Bryant, Atlanta, Ga.; niece, Pattie (Pender) Whisenant, Ashville; nephew, Greg Pender, Ashville; great-nephew, Christopher Pender, Ashville.
Pallbearers will be Greg Pender, Christopher Pender, Carey Ray, Devin Ray, Tony Elrod, Jerry Crabtree, Mickey Farmer and Jack Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Parker Ray and Colton Ray.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Morgan Funeral Chapel.
