Gladys Allman MORGANTON Gladys Whisnant Allman, 88, of Morganton, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 at Grace Heights. Born March 1, 1923 in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Mary Sue Cope Whisnant. Known by everyone as "Grandmaw Gladys", she loved children and was a mother to lots of kids. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Samuel Allman; a grandson, Mike Anderson; and brothers, Bona Whisnant and James "Jim" Whisnant. Surviving are her daughters and their husbands, Frances Anderson and Junior of N. Wilkesboro, Barbara "Bobbie" Riddle and Donald of Statesville, Nina Annas and Bobby, and Linda Wittenberg and Ronnie, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Kathy Church, Sharon Franklin, Steve Annas, Derek McNeely, and Aaron and Erica Wittenberg; great-grandchildren, Christy Ratlaff, Davey Anderson, Allison and Patrick Annas, Dylan Franklin, and Blaize Phipps; siblings, Lucille Allman, Bud Whisnant, Gertrude Clontz, Elizabeth "Lib" Norville, Sadie Whisnant, Richard Whisnant, Frances Stamey, David Whisnant, Winfred Whisnant, and Gene Whisnant. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 17, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Revs. Steve Parker and Gary Cline officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday. At other times the family will be at the home of Linda and Ronnie Wittenberg.
