R. E. Whisenant Rites Held At Monkstown
Funeral services for Russell Edward Whisenant, 61, of Monkstown, who died at his home Tuesday afternoon, June 20, 1961, were held at the Monkstown Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon June 21, with Dr. Darrell Morgan of Sherman officiating. Interment in Forest Grove Cemetery at Telephone was under the direction of Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jack Harguess, J.B. Clark, Lee Clark, Roy Hurd, Beachel Fair and Rob Branson.
Mr. Whisenant, son of the late Joseph A. and Pearlie Keeton Whisenant, was born in Morganton, N.C., December 26, 1899. He was married to Ida Bell Slagle, August 10, 1923.
Widely known as a nurseryman and farmer in this area, Mr. Whisenant had been in ill health. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors are the wife of the home; a son, Charles Whisenant of Dallas; a daughter, Mrs. J.C. Anderson of Sherman; a brother, Grayson Whisenant of Roswell, New Mexico; four sisters, Mrs. Callie Moore, Hugo, Okla.; Mrs. Ollie Hall, Ft. Cobb, Okla.; Mrs. Sally McNalley, Seminole, Okla.; and Mrs. Alice Hall of Bokchita, Okla; two half-brothers, Ben Thompson of California and Kerby Thompson of Midland; a half-sister, Bertha Toom of Midland; a step-sister, Minnie Marlow of Oklahoma, and five grandchildren.
