Tom Whisenhunt

Tom Whisenhunt, age 56, passed away on February 11, 2012, losing his battle with cancer. Thomas Alan Whisenhunt was born on July 20, 1955, in Lexington, Kentucky. He was the son of Catherine Arrington and the late William M. Arrington of Austin. Tom lived in Lexington until 1971, when his family was transferred to Austin by IBM. He attended Lanier High School and graduated in 1973. He began working at IBM in 1974 and retired from his position as a test engineer 25 years later. He had many interests, including his love of car racing, sailing, fixing things and his beloved pets. He was always generously offering to repair a friend or family member's broken car. He often said that he never met a car he couldn't fix. Tom is survived by his daughters, Claire and Rachel Whisenhunt, his ex-wife Sue Whisenhunt, mother Catherine Arrington, twin sister Judy Willey, niece Annie Bernard and husband Jeff, great nephew and nieces, Zach, Grace and Lauren Bernard. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, the 16th of February, 2012 at 5 o'clock in the evening, at Covenant United Methodist Church located at 4410 Duval Road, Austin, Texas 78727. There will be a reception for friends and family following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice Austin, 4100 Spicewood Springs Road, Austin, Texas 78759 or to The Christopher House, 2820 E. MLK Blvd, Austin, Texas 78702.
