Ruth E. Curry

Ruth E. Curry, 90, of Spencer, passed away Monday, January 30, 2012 at her residence. She was born in Monroe County on July 16, 1921 to Edwin G. and Annetta (Whisenand) Stephenson. She attended Purdue University for two years, majoring in engineering and was recruited by Curtis-Wright in Ohio during WWII, to read blueprints looking for stress fractures in airplanes.
Mrs. Curry was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Bloomington, was a member of the Owen-Monroe County Cattlemen's Association, was a former 4-H leader for many years, a former member of the Owen County 4-H Council, a former board member of the Owen County Extension Board, a 50 year member of Owen County Extension Homemakers, an Honorary Member of FFA, and most recently received the Owen County Farm Family of the Year Award of 2011.
Ruth is survived by four sons, Bob (Brenda) Curry, George Ed (Diana) Curry, Fred Curry and Tom Curry all of Spencer ; brother, Mike (Judy) Stephenson of Lafayette; sisters, Delores Boothroyd and Connie (Pete) Pennington both of Bloomington; grandchildren, Stephania (Mark) Major, Travis (Jill) Curry, Andrea Curry, Kurt (Jaime) Curry, Errissa Curry and Errin (John) Logsdon and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert M Curry in 2001 whom she married in 1945; son, Alan Curry; daughter-in law, Robin J. Curry; brother, John Stephenson and sisters, Virginia Doan and Thaetta Arthur.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 3, 2012 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer. Bro. Gary Fiscus will officiate. Burial will follow at Covenanter Cemetery in Bloomington. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2012 and 9-11 a.m., Friday.
