Gladys E. Blount
Gladys E. (Whisenant) Blount, 92, passed away peacefully from Alzheimer's disease on February 21, 2012. Gladys was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on April 21, 1919 to John Scott Whisenant and Mary Viola Breckenridge Whisenant. After her mother's death in 1923, she moved with her family first to San Angelo, Texas and then in 1926 to Colorado Springs where her father and uncle operated a grocery store on South Wahsatch. She attended Lowell Elementary School and South Junior High. She graduated in 1938 from Colorado Springs High School. On September 14, 1941, she married William Blount who predeceased her in 1995. Gladys and Bill had two children: Carole Blount Flint (Rockwell deceased) and William Blount (Gail Pring), all of Colorado Springs. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Sara Flint-Anderson of Colorado Springs, Rockwell Flint of Washington, D.C., Colin Blount and Evan Blount of Denver, and two great-grandchildren, AnaRae Howe-Flint and Claire Flint-Anderson. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Edgar and Francis Whisenant and her sister Doris Parker. Gladys was a gentle, loving mother and grandmother who always reached out to her family, friends and neighbors. In her high school yearbook, her nickname was "Happy," and her optimistic, cheerful attitude sustained her throughout her life. She was able to enjoy 59 years in her home that she loved and cared for. She loved traveling, reading, painting, gardening, and interior decorating. She was also an excellent cook who made the best homemade noodles ever. No one ever left her house hungry. Gladys loved all children and animals. She was devoted to her many beloved dogs and cats over the years and even had a following among many neighborhood pets who loved to visit her. Gladys was a positive force in the lives of all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. A celebration of Gladys's life will be held at 1:00 on Monday, February 24, at Broadmoor Community Church, 315 Lake Avenue. Private interment will be Tuesday at Evergreen Cemetery.
