Remona P. Whisnant
Remona Lanelle Parks Whisnant, age 91, of Waverly Hall, Ga., died Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Magnolia Manor in Columbus, Ga.
Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2012, at the Waverly Hall City Cemetery, with Rev. David Helms officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home in Manchester.
Mrs. Whisnant was born October 21, 1920, in Taylor County, Ga., the daughter of G. Matt Parks and Eleanor Smoots Parks. She was a homemaker, had worked as a Supervisor for Goody Products in Manchester, and had been a substitute teacher at the Waverly Hall Primary School. She was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Ellerslie, where she was very active in her Sunday School Class, and was also a former member of Waverly Hall Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, R. G. "Billy" Whisnant; and a sister and brother-in-law, Modene and James Meadows.
Survivors include her four children; Amberly Benefield and her husband Jim of Hampton, Ga., Billy Whisnant and his wife Danna of Manchester, Ga., Thomas Whisnant of Geneva, Ga., and Lisa Shaughnessy and her husband Mark of Cumming, Ga.; six grandchildren, Erica Durham and her husband Chris of Manchester, Ga., Justin Benefield of Hampton, Ga., Marti Mayfield of Peachtree City, Ga., Lannie Shaughnessy of Waverly Hall, Ga., Jessie Brown and her husband Alex of Fayetteville, Ga., and Lindsay Shaughnessy of Cumming, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Lydia Durham, Jared Chambers, Jimmy Benefield, and Maris Mayfield; a sister, Zell Mahaffey of Columbus, Ga.; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Reeves of Waverly Hall, Ga., and Phoebe Revell of Winchester, Ky., and a brother-in-law, Mullins Whisnant and his wife Mary Jane of Columbus, Ga.
Flowers will be accepted or those who desire may make memorial contributions to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Rd. Columbus, Ga. 31909.
Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home, Manchester, is in charge of arrangements.
