Zula Whisenant
MORGANTON Zula Randolph Whisenant, 67, of Morganton, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at the Burke Palliative Care Center. Born in McDowell County, Feb. 24, 1945, she was the daughter of Tassie Mae Gwynn Poston, of Valdese and the late Stanley Randolph. Zula attended River Valley Baptist Church. In addition to her mother, Zula is survived by her son, Rodney Whisenant and wife, Robin, of Morganton; daughters, Jeannie Whisenant and Doris Abernathy and husband, James, both of Morganton; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Scott Randolph, of Morganton and Benny Randolph, of Valdese; and sisters, Judy Weatherholtz, of Valdese, Carol Whisenant, of Morganton and Mildred McCall, of Morganton. In addition to her father, Zula was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Junior Whisenant; a son, James Whisenant; a granddaughter, Christina Michelle Parker; and a brother, Steve Randolph. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 21, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory, with the Rev. Charlie Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at River Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the funeral.
