Maxine Whisnant

MORGANTON Maxine "Mickey" Whisnant, 66, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Mission Memorial Hospital. She was born in Burke County July 3, 1946, and was a daughter of the late Cameron Tellis Whisnant and Lettie Anne Powell Whisnant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Cameron Whisnant Jr., Charlie Whisenant, Billy Jack Whisnant, Joe Ben Whisnant, Thomas Jerry "Pinky" Whisnant, Jean Rarick, and "Bobbie" Clay. Mickey was a loving caregiver to friends and family alike. She enjoyed baseball and basketball and was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and the UNC Tarheels. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church. Mickey is survived by her daughter, Karen Whisnant; granddaughter, Renee Bailey and husband, Sean; great-grandsons, Dylan and Hunter Bailey; siblings, Hannie Owens, Aileen Fisher and husband, Jerry, and Ronnie Whisnant and wife, Dinah, all of Morganton; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other extended family members. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today (Sunday, Dec. 16), at Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Steve Parker and the Rev. Keith Rose officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Baptist Church, 3394 Pea Ridge Rd., Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center has the honor of serving Mrs. Whisnant's family.
