Alma Leaks

Sept. 19, 1931 – Feb. 19, 2007

SHELBY — Ms. Alma Ada Whisnant Leaks, 75, of 1118 Earl St., finished her battle on Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at Hospice of Cleveland County.

She was born Sept. 19, 1931, to the late Riley Chavis and Addie King Whisnant in Polk County.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Leaks; three sisters, Maggie Simpson, Josie Whisnant and Katherine Brooks; two brothers, William “Bud” Whisnant and Richard Whisnant; and one sister-in-law, Loretta Whisnant.

She leaves to cherish fond memories a daughter, Alva Finney and husband, Douglas, of Shelby; a son, Jerry Elliott Whisnant of the home; three grandchildren, Zavea Stroud and Antwynette Stroud, both of Shelby, and Carvet Briscoe of Gastonia; a sister, Janet Bailey of Buffalo, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Annie Thurman Whisnant of Shelby; 10 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation: The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at Wheats Creek Baptist Church, 3738 Pea Ridge Road, Mill Spring, and other times at her daughter’s home at 823 Kings Road, Shelby.

Funeral: Saturday at 1 p.m. at Wheats Creek Baptist Church

Burial: Wheats Creek Baptist Church Cemetery
